Black Bean Dip

I'm a big fan of black bean dip, but it's somewhat expensive at $3.99 a jar considering a can of black beans costs about $.60. It's also very fast and simple to make it homemade, so why not save a few bucks and eat better quality too?

Not much in the way of process except for measuring ingredients and chucking it into the food processor. One thing I did discover, though, is if you want a chunkier dip, then be sure to mince or chop your ingredients before adding them to the food processor. For instance, if you don't mince your garlic you'll have to pulse your food processor more to be sure the garlic gets chopped up fine. This results in pastier bean dip.

Other than a food dip for chips, I discovered a long time ago that black bean dip was awesome spread on a pita with a little sour cream. Definitely try this and as you can see my spreading skills are epic!

I found the recipe at food.com if you want the original, but I made some changes because I felt the jalapeno stole the show, not in the heat department, but in the flavor department. I added more tomato paste, and subsequently had to season a little more with salt and cumin, because I wanted a more tomato-based dip. This worked out pretty well.
